The Young Mind Fund: A Beautiful Cause Too Important Not to Support
Beautiful things come from people who want to make a difference. I've been in the charitable sector for a short period, but its impact on me has been significant. So much kindness and thoughtfulness coming together for the betterment of society. I've talked at length about our How Are You Feeling program and the difference it will make in the lives of others.
I'm incredibly passionate about what we're doing and the good that will help teens and their families. We always saw our program as best suited in the prevention space, but remediation gets all the attention and financial support. As Bob Calvert always tells me, no one picks up a self-help book unless they're in crisis. We saw our charity helping to fund and market our program to schools, eventually focusing on developing and releasing additional content. Through conversations and collaboration, beautiful things are possible.
I was referred to Amy Corbin by someone I knew within the mental health world. Amy had a vision but didn't know how to act upon it. She wanted to provide therapy and coaching sessions for teens and young adults who didn't have the financial means to afford them. With typical psychotherapy sessions running about $175-200/hour, there was a huge need, especially since only 20% of teens diagnosed with a mental health issue get treatment. Cost is a serious impediment in the way of many youths seeking treatment. Alas, the Young Mind Fund (#youngmindfund) was born.
The purpose of #youngmindfund is for the cost of treatment to not get in the way of receiving treatment. We aim to provide 1,000 hours of free therapy for those who otherwise wouldn't get help. It's a beautiful vision of Amy Corbin, who will also be one of our first donors. The need for this service is critical, especially today! We aim to continue increasing the number of therapy hours each year.
Please click on the link if you are interested in contributing to the Young Mind Fund. If you have connections to foundations, charitable organizations or individuals that have a penchant for donating to youth mental health causes, I'd be grateful for the contact. We would be thankful for the introduction if you know any mental health practitioners willing to provide discounted or pro bono services.
The need for youth mental health services has never been greater than in this post-pandemic era. The need for mental health support tends to peak around the holiday season. We hope to be offering this financial assistance shortly. We are still taking volunteers for our How Are You Feeling program, so if your teen and their friends want to register, we can start a new group in the New Year. Register Here.
We are excited about the evolution of our charity and to help those who are unable to afford mental health services get the treatment they so desperately need. The holiday season is where those affected by mental illness require these services the most. Thank you for considering us as a place for your charitable dollars.
